Teacher’s Assistant

A complementary application to Overseer Admin was developed for teachers.  This is called Overseer LAN because it must be installed on a local area network (LAN). Overseer LAN grants teachers access to student and class information which resides on the main database managed by Overseer Admin.

Teachers can use Overseer LAN to directly access information on any of the classes or students that they teach.  They also have indirect access to family information, work contact information for parents of students, and other relevant information.

Overseer LAN is a subset of the functionality offered by Overseer Admin.  Most of the menu options and speed buttons within Overseer Admin are not relevant to teachers, and have therefore been removed in order to simplify the user interface for teachers.  The student and class detail screens within Overseer Admin are the only primary screens available to teachers.  Other information is available through the Family and Child buttons on the General tabsheet.of the Student detail screen.

The primary function of Overseer LAN is to provide an interface through which teachers can enter students marks and comments, then print report cards at the end of each term.  This capability is supported for both the default report card designs which are available through Overseer Admin and for the custom report card designs created via Overseer Reports (and installed via Overseer Admin).  Two separate screens are provided for this purpose: one via the Marks tabsheet of the Student detail screen, the other via the Marks tabsheet of the Class detail screen.

Overseer LAN also supports recording of student attendance information, either on a daily basis throughout each term, or at the end of each term, depending upon a setting via Overseer Admin.  Attendance information, captured by either method may then be printed on report cards. If daily attendance records are kept, then an administrator must determine whether this is the responsibility of each teacher, or of the school secretary.  Both are supported by Overseer.

If Overseer Grades is used to log student marks and comments during each term, then Overseer LAN may be used by teachers to create a Grades database at the beginning of each term, synchronize it periodically with the master database, then import final term marks and comments at the end of each term.  In this case, Overseer LAN may also be used to perform final editing of term marks and comments prior to final printing of report cards.

Overseer LAN also enables teachers to print class lists, emergency information, time-tables, student profiles and other reports at any time during the school year.

In addition, teachers can maintain session notes for each student in a manner which can be shared by other teachers and the school office. These could identify special achievements, disciplinary measures, or other content which pertains to a specific school year.  General notes pertaining to longer term issues (which extend beyond the current session) may be entered by the school office and viewed by teachers via Overseer LAN.

Download the Overseer Teachers Guide for additional information on Overseer LAN.
