Bug Fixes in Overseer Version 1.808
The following bug in Overseer Grades 1.807, Overseer Admin 1.807 and Overseer LAN 1.807 was fixed in version 1.808
- A bug in the encryption/decryption algorithm used by Grades database files resulted in an inability to read those files when they had specific lengths of approximately 4200 bytes (or integer multiples thereof). The precise file size for which a failure occurred was unique for each file type (e.g. for Subject Area files, failure occured when the file size was (4192 x n + 32) bytes for any non-negative integer n. This was fixed in version 1.808 in such a way as to maintain compatibility between new and old versions of software to the fullest extent possible. Files written by version 1.807 software can be read by version 1.807 or 1.808 software provided they are not of a faulty length as described above. Files written by version 1.808 software can be read by version 1.807 or 1.808 software irrespective of their length.
The following bug in Overseer Reports 1.805 and Overseer Admin 1.807 was fixed in version 1.808 of these applications.
- A bug in the encryption/decryption algorithm used by these applications could, in theory, have been encountered when reading (via Overseer Reports) or installing (via Overseer Admin) a custom report design file created by Overseer Reports. In practice, no users have reported encountering this bug, which has been fixed in version 1.808 of both applications. Custom report card design files created by Overseer Reports versions 1.805 or 1.808 can be read (or installed) by any of the following software versions: Overseer Reports 1.805 or 1.808; Overseer Admin 1.807 or 1.808. In particular, Overseer Admin can be upgraded without having to generate new design files first.
- With some custom report card formats, some data fields were displayed in black on printouts. This was resolved in version 1.808 of these applications.
The above upgrades may be applied independently for the four applications
(Admin, LAN, Grades and Reports) when convenient. These changes are only
relevant to users of Overseer Grades or custom report cards (e.g. the OACS
report cards) designed via Overseer Reports.
